PhunkyFoods launches a new online resource for schools

Harrogate based company PhunkyFoods has launched a new online shop, providing schools with a range of cost effective resources to help educate 5-11 year olds about the importance of healthy eating and exercising.

PhunkyFoods already provides teaching resources to 350 schools across the UK with the comprehensive PhunkyFoods programme. Due to demand however a new online shop has been developed allowing schools to dip into elements of the programme enabling teachers to access a suite of interactive materials at the click of a button.

The online shop provides a wide range of books, games, and DVD's as well as teaching aids including posters, maps and cards. The PhunkyFoods materials will enable children to learn more about healthy eating.

Examples include:-
o Granddad the Greengrocer Interactive Big Book DVD. The story looks at the origins of food and contains worksheets designed to help pupils to match foods with their countries of origin as well as a number of word searches and puzzles.

o The Food for Thought Discussion Cards provide topics for pupils to talk about for example, the importance of hygiene, growing food, party food and school lunches.

o Five interactive DVD's are available which provide games and activities suitable for key stages 1 and 2. The Phunky Tunes DVD contains a number of catchy songs for pupils to sing along to, for example, the lyrics to 'Gimme 5' highlight the importance of having five pieces of fruit/vegetables a day.

PhunkyFoods has also created four healthy week packs; Physical Activity, Healthy Eating, Strive for Five and Get Phunky with Food. The packs contain all the necessary equipment to hold a week long health themed event in schools, including CD's with supporting lesson plans, worksheets, activity suggestions, posters to decorate classrooms and photocards, all centred on a particular topic.

Dr Jennie Cockroft, Nutritional Director, PhunkyFoods, comments: "Our new online resource enables teachers to pick and choose the products which will best support their lesson plans. As well as the individual elements, we have also created Healthy Week Packs. Having a dedicated week long event really helps to engage children in a range of exciting activities which will educate them on the importance of maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle."
